Q:

Why do you focus so much on strength training?

 
 

A:

Flexibility and cardiovascular exercise are equally important for overall health but if one’s goal is to lose fat, the fastest and most effective way to do that is strength training.  As you add muscle, your body becomes a fat burning machine – your body will burn more fat all day even while you sleep.

 

 

Q:

What makes my muscles hurt after a workout?

 
 

A:

The burning sensation the muscles have during a workout is called lactic acid. This is a waste product in the muscles and is alleviated with stretching.  The pain that is felt a day or two after a workout is the actual muscle fiber breakdown.  Yes, that’s right; the muscles when worked get micro tears, the muscles when rested, grow back stronger and larger. The key to muscle size and strength is to work the muscles properly and give them enough rest.

 

 

Q:

How fast will I see results?

 
 

A:

It usually takes a few weeks to see results but most people feel the results immediately.  Sleeping better, feeling stronger and having more energy usually happen after just a few workouts.

 

 

Q:

I’ve been exercising for weeks now but I haven’t lost weight; what’s the deal?

 
 

A:

It’s important not to be a slave to the scale and to pay attention to other things too:  such as body fat % changes and how your clothes fit.  As you add muscle to your body, you will notice your body shape changing, not always losing total body weight but losing body fat.

 

 

Q:

I hear a lot about the benefits of yoga and other forms of exercise, what do you think?

 
 

A:

There are many different types of exercise out there that are great.  Strength training is the best way to lose body fat, so that’s where we spend most of our time. Our sessions will include stretching (yes, even some yoga stretches), and aerobic exercise to get your heart working.  It’s important to have a well-balanced approach.

 

 

Q:

Do I have to stop eating potatoes and other carbohydrates to lose weight?

 
 

A:

There are many different diets out there.  Our approach is to do things for the long term.  It’s important to think of an eating plan as a consistent commitment.  You don’t have to give up everything you enjoy to lose weight.  Carbohydrates have their place in your healthy eating plan.

 

 

Q:

What will be used to track my progress?

 
 

A:

We will chart your strength and caliper measurements for body fat %.

 

 

Q:

What happens after I reach my goals?

 
 

A:

After you reach your goals, I hope you take a moment to celebrate and reward yourself.  After that, we may keep in touch through the maintenance program that continues to give you the support you need for ongoing success.

 

 

Q:

Why are the coaching sessions separate, can’t we just talk while we’re exercising?

 
 

A:

I like to make the most of your time, which is why it’s important to focus on exercise during our workout sessions so we can coach through your successes and what’s holding you back during our coaching sessions.  This is typically too distracting to do doing your workout time.

 

 

Q:

How does web cam training work?

 
 

A:

Web cam training is a great thing if you don’t live nearby or travel a lot.  I’ll give you a web cam; we connect via a web conference line.  I can demonstrate exercises for you and watch your form to ensure you’re exercising properly.  We keep a scheduled appointment as we would if we were meeting in person.  Isn’t technology great!

 

 

Q:

Why are your programs by the month instead of the session?

 
 

A:

Making long lasting change is a process.  These habits we have developed usually don’t disappear after just a session or two.  Session packages are available but commitment and consistency are the keys to your success.

 

 

Q:

Can I pay with a credit card?

 
 

A:

You may pay with Master Card or Visa on my website or I can do it for you over the phone.  We also accept personal checks made out to Your Fabulous Body, LLC.
